If you decided to repair the MID unit, than probably you don't need to be told how to disassemble the unit, because it quite straight forward.
The only thing we would advice you to do is making the pictures of every step you take, so you knew how to assemble it back. It may be a bit tricky.
Another important thing. ALL THE STEPS SHOWN HERE ARE THE MUST. NO ONE STEP MAY BE EXCLUDED OR SHORT CUT. EVERY EXCLUDED STEP = FAIL!!!
Make sure NOT to bent metal brackets protecting the ribbon cable on the LCD and on the circuit board. Remove them gently, making sure that they are keepeng their shape.
We are starting after you peeled off the old ribbon cable from the LCD and from the circuit board.
1) Remove the old ribbon cable from the LCD glass
2) Clean the LCD screen from the old ribbon cable residuals
Inspect all the contacts on the screen. They are not easily visible, so you need to find the right angle to see the contacts.
If after the cleaning you'll notice any damaged contacts (like on the picture below) - you are done until you will find the new replacement screen. We usually do have them in stock. ->Click here <-
3) Clean the circuit board. Make sure the contacts are shiny gold (shown on the left part on the picture). DO NOT USE ANYTHING SHARP AS IT MAY DAMAGE THE TRACES!!!
4) VERY IMPORTANT STEP!! IF YOU WILL MISS IT - YOU KNOW WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN :) Make sure there is no residuals in between of the contacts.
5) VERY IMPORTANT STEP!! IF YOU WILL MISS IT - YOU KNOW WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN :) Allign the ribbon cable with the contacts and solder it with the soldering iron with T-Tip head. If you use carbon ribbon cable - use 30w soldering iron. If you use silver ribbon cable - use 40w soldering iron. Once you started to solder - IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO RE-ALLIGN THE CABLE (you will need the new one). If you think, that you can stick without using of soldering iron - it's wrong. This ribbon cable designed to be applied ONLY with the soldering iron with T-TIP. On the picture below is shown how looks properly soldered ribbon cable. Please be careful not to overheat the ribbon cable, but in the same time it should be sticked well to make a contact on ALL those tiny traces.
6) Solder the ribbon cable same way to the circuit board.
7) THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT STEP!! IF YOU WILL MISS IT - YOU KNOW WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN :) Make sure to apply the tape to the OTHER side of the ribbon cable, same way as was done by the manufacturer (remember you peeled the orange tape from the ribbon cable when you disassemble the unit?)
8) Now it's time to assemble the unit back. Do not forget the rubber strips.
10) This is how looks properly alligned ribbon cable after the installation of the rubber strips and metal brackets.
11) If you did everything right - you'll see something similar if you will connect it to the bench test or you'll see regular radio information if you will connect it to your car. If you still missing pixels - you didn't do right one or more steps. We advice you to use our pixel repair service before it's too late :) ->Click Here<-
